CHOOSE YOUR NEXT MOVE

From Nottinghamshire to Shanghai.

Ellie Bouttell grew up in Bilborough, Nottinghamshire, spent part of her teens in Beijing, and read Chinese at Cambridge. She came to boxing late - she picked it up as cardio, to balance out powerlifting - and turned professional in China at twenty-seven.

In January she came back to Britain for the first time as a professional, to fight for a WBC bantamweight eliminator at the Copper Box Arena in London. She lost on a majority decision that could have gone either way.

She is still ranked. She is still training twice a day.

That is the part we recognised.

IN HER WORDS

Six questions with Ellie.

Shanghai, in her own words.
01

From Cambridge, to China, to professional boxing. What was the moment you decided to take it seriously?

It was after my first ever white collar fight. I had been living so cleanly - sleeping early, rising early, training a lot, not partying at all. I just felt so pure. Like I was really living, for the first time. I was standing on the Bund after a sunrise run, and I just decided to do everything I could to box full time.

02

What does strength mean to you, outside of winning fights?

There are many, many types of strength. To me, tenacity, adaptability and resilience are far more important than raw strength.

03

As a female athlete, what is one thing you hope more women realise about themselves?

I see a lot of women lacking confidence, and it makes me sad. And kind of angry, actually. Society keeps women down. I'd like to see more women strength training, combat training - not because they "need to", but because it's fun and joyful to train your body, feel how powerful it can be.

04

What qualities do you value most in activewear?

Flattering, supportive, high quality materials that don't lose their shape with washing. I sweat a LOT in training, so I also like light, quick-drying materials.

05

What made FORMWYNN feel like the right partner?

I like the clean aesthetic. Simple, soft, breathable. I also like the company's attitude - adaptable and agile, and interested in how to create what's best for purpose.

06

"Choose Your Next Move" - what does that phrase mean to you?

It means you choose your life, one conscious action at a time.
